Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day) Monday, December 9th, Mass 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Whenever the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8) lands on a Sunday, its observance is transferred to the following Monday and, in the past, we were excused from the obligation to attend its Mass that year. The Vatican recently clarified that it is still to be considered a Holy Day of Obligation and Bishop Parkes is not granting an exception for the Diocese of Savannah. This is especially fitting since Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the U.S. Therefore, Mass attendance this Dec. 9 is mandatory regardless of what a Catholic publication may state. As a side note, when Dec. 8 lands on a Sunday, all Masses that day must be for the 2nd Sunday of Advent. Hence, no Vigil Mass for the solemnity is possible.
